Me.

Hey! I’m John Love. I’m the guy to help with your musical project ideas. I’m a self-taught musician focused mainly on piano/keyboard/synth and access to pretty much any other instrument you’d like. I’ve called Chicago “home” for about 4 years now but I’d love to exist in different locations throughout my life because there’s so much to see and do out there and I crave adventure.

I’ve got two main gigs at the moment. First, I music direct for The Second City’s National Touring Company (RedCo!) and other house shows here in town. It’s a dream. I design the sound for each show and collaborate with cast members to write songs. During live shows, I play improvised piano/midi keys to fit improvised scenes and launch cues using QLab. I love the challenge of random mood shifts during an improv scene. It’s made me incredibly quick on my feet!

Second, I play keys and sing (a bit) for my band The North and Wells Band. Three of my best mates and I who met working as night staffers at Second City. Now we have a pretty solid fan base and play shows all across the city. Folks call our music a blend between Soul, R&B, with a hint of Pop. We just like to call it “fun.” Being a DIY band, I’ve learned loads about writing, producing, and mixing music using Logic and Studio One (Vulf Compressor=three thumbs up).

Aside from these two main jobs, I love to freelance with the vibrant artistic community in Chicago.  Freelancing for me could look like many things; designing sound/songs for variety shows, creating theme songs for podcasts, or soundtracking other projects such as video shorts, art pieces, and even a segment on an Amazon show called “Yuppies.”  I love to use my free time experimenting with and learning my instruments and software.

I pride myself in being very easy to work with. If you hire me to create something, you will get exactly what you want. I won’t stop until you’re happy with the finished product. So, please get ahold of me and let us create!
